As the old saying states that old is gold, Bagamoyo, hidden behind the sandy beaches and the humongous mountains is one of the places in Tanzania that is rarely visited by tourists, it may not seem attractive from far but once you know this place you will officially fall in love with it.
The beauty of Bagamoyo still resides in the museum which holds the history of Bagamoyo in relation to its contact with the foreigners. The handicrafts exemplify their diverse cultures and traditions of the ethnic groups that lived a century ago. The handicrafts that you get in this area are one of a kind and cannot be found anywhere else in the whole world, if you love fashion ,beady necklaces and earrings this is the place to be.
Well you may be thinking that Bagamoyo is mostly about handicrafts and historical sites but don’t worry for all you food lovers out there, Bagamoyo is a very versatile place and has its own types of food such as rice, cassava meal with dry fish and green vegetables, mseto (rice & green grams), dry cassava cooked in coconut sauce, bambiko (maize shelled & intricately prepared eaten with green vegetables.. They also make their own traditional soft drinks Traditional soft drinks of (togwa) made of millet, boiled & grown millet for sweetness which I must say is a must try.

Bagamoyo is Tanzania’s backbone as it exemplifies the history of the origins. It is not only a place where you can enjoy but it is also a place we should always remember, it is a very great place to visit, but with every good memories come bad memories too and the struggles people had to face to make Bagamoyo what it is today, and as people say it a small package but a big explosion and that is exactly what Bagamoyo is, a place that must be visited.

Very impressive work. However, I would like to ask about accomodation availability in Bagamoyo and accessibility. Is Bagamoyo easily accessible and is accommodation available? Also a bit on the residents will be helpful. Good work!
ReplyDeleteYes. Accommodation is available. You can visit Lazy Lagoon or Paradise Holiday resort for the ravishing view of Bagamoyo and the beautiful ocean. Bagamoyo is easily accessible, however you need to book your hotel prior.

Thankyou. Information on accomodation is listed in the previous comment. Bagamoyo is approximately 1.5 hours away from Dar-Es Salaam city. Yes, Bagamoyo is an ethnic and an ancient TOWN which holds great importance during colonization. I shall consider your recommendation however, most of the specialities of Bagamoyo have been listed above.

Great and informative work. Makes Bagamoyo seem like a mystical woderland. Beautiful picture. What activities can one do in Bagamoyo beside visit the museum? Are there hotels or other tourist attractions? More pictures would be a good addition as well. Please oblige to considering my suggestions. Otherwise, beautiful blog.
